alcohol abuseALCOHOL

We treat alcohol issues as a behavioural disorder - this is key as it means we don't take an 'all or nothing' approach. We can all be responsible social drinkers if we can get ourselves back in control.

"Alcohol is a good servant and a terrible master".

This old saying carries so much meaning for so many people and we sometimes need help when alcohol becomes a problem for us.

I treat this as a temporary behavioural disorder and not a lifelong addiction.

Here is an important distinction between my approach and the view which says 'Once a drunk, always a drunk'. With this latter model, there seems to be a view which says you can either:

Remain a complete alcoholic
 ...Or
Never drink alcohol again.

Personally, I don't subscribe to this belief because experience shows me that complete abstinence so often causes people to simply think about (and fear) alcohol much of the time and so it offers one of two alternatives:-

Either:

1) Be a miserable drunk
or
2) Just be miserable

This is one approach which accepts that the drinking behaviour is lurking just below the surface, ready to trip us up again. I know that life always has more and better options than this which is why I can't accept that viewpoint.

Our alcohol hypnotherapy treatment doesn't take years but may take weeks. Essentially, we reprogramme your relationship with alcohol which puts you back in control. Just like much of our other hypnotherapy work, we modify the behaviour and its associated triggers. This means that the old drinking behaviour doesn't just 'fire up' automatically - you decide when and whether you want to drink or not. This was probably the way it was when you took your first alcohol.

Please contact us and we'll can discuss what we are dealing with in an informal chat on the phone. That would normally give us an idea of what is required.

If you always decide if, when and how much to drink - and whether to have another, then you are in control - and not the drink. And this is the change which we can bring about. Pretty much as when we 'switch off' smoking or nail-biting behaviours. With our alcohol work, we are switching off some behaviours and switching on some others.

Final Note on Alcoholics Anonymous:
I deeply respect the work of the AA but I do take a fundamentally different approach in my alcohol work. I never advocate handing over responsibility for alcohol issues to a higher power although I know that many successfully follow this path and of course I wish them well. However, though this is not my approach although I am always delighted to present alternative options to AA groups and members.

If you think you may have a problem with alcohol and would like to check it and get back in control then please do contact us.

The normal hourly rates apply and completion is a achieved over a number of sessions. We can discuss this and your unique case when you call.

Working with alcohol issues, abuse and concerns is centred in Glasgow but is taken to other parts of Scotland when needed. Please do contact us if you feel you would benefit from our treatment.
