An end to smoking:
Breathe easy - you derserve it.
Stop Smoking and Stay Stopped:- The Real Situation and the Good News.
The Fastrack Route: If
you just want to pay your money and become a happy non-smoker then please contact us by phone or email and ignore all the
rest of this page. It's actually pretty good but there's a lot of it
and we understand if you don't want to read it all. Perhaps you'll come
back to it after you've stopped and found out how it all worked.
If
you are a smoker, then below is your real situation - although you may
not like to see it put like this - its not fluffy and I can guarantee
that a lot of Hypnotherapists are not going to like it,
this is your actual situation. The good news is that it is possible to get past this situation quickly and permanently become a non-smoker:
The Real Situation:
1. Smoking is the delivery mechanism for Nicotine.
2. Nicotine is the most addictive substance on Earth (even more addictive than heroin) - any dispute over this is marginal.
3. You are physically addicted to Nicotine. (Many
hypnotherapists and others don't say this, perhaps they don't believe
it - but its quite true.
Addiction is a result of a natural strategy of
the body which it puts in place to maintain its own adaptation to
poisons - it needs to keep a record of the enemy [a sample of the
poison] in your database to maintain the adaptation and ensure defence).
4. As with all addictions, you have become psychologically dependent - on smoking. Note that you are not addicted to smoking or cigarettes - just Nicotine (sometimes other chemicals in the mix).
The Good News:
1. We can break the physical addiction - permanently.
If you're up for it, then we can get over this part - and its
essential; otherwise your body will keep trying to 'help' you by
requesting a sample of poison [this is 'craving'].
2. We'll get you through any withdrawal and eliminate the psychological dependence. Psychological
dependence is what most hypnotherapists focus on and I agree that this
is the big thing to break and with hypnosis we can do that brilliantly
well. However, we must clear out the addiction first - this idea is
less popular but it is an absolutely essential step.
3. Once this is done, there is no reason for you to ever smoke again. And, most importantly - you'll never miss it either.
In
case you're wondering why I don't use the term habit above - its
because habits don't make you do anything. Addictions lead you to
become psychologically dependent which makes you afraid of stopping
smoking. You may believe that smoking is a habit - but its not... this
is the way addictions work, they affect your body and your mind (the
way that you think). In fact, you buy cigarettes because you need them
- then you smoke them and your smoking pattern can become a habit - but
you actually smoke cigarettes to satisfy the addiction - you need them.
Not Convinced ? Then
try this: write down all your other habits and tick all the ones which
you couldn't stop even if your GP told you it was life-threatening. You
see, none of those other habits involves an addictive drug ! [If they
do, then we have another problem to deal with here].
This is how our Stop Smoking Program works......
Firstly we (you and me) recognise that you don't really want to Stop Smoking - although you may think you should -
if you did want to stop, you would just stop and tolerate any
unpleasantness which might come along. However, we can both recognise
that you would like to be a Non-Smoker (every smoker over about 25
years of age does). These are two different things and its like this
because your dependence raises Fears about Stopping Smoking (it seems difficult so you don't want this) and
Being a Non-Smoker has got everything going for it (so you do want this).
Note:
Understanding this previous part is critical and many of us don't quite get it -
we'll not be successful until we've grasped this bit.
Confused ? OK
then... think of something you would really, really like to be and you
know that you could do well and it would fulfil your life - perhaps
you've always wanted it (Mountaineer, Medical Doctor, Racing Driver,
Singer, Writer, Gardener, Living in a Cottage in Rural France, ...) -
So you know exactly what you want but you don't get it because you don't want to take the steps which lead you there - even though you know what they are !(We
all do it - don't feel bad - but in this case, as with our other
successes in life, we need to acknowledge it and deal with it for
success to be ours.)
So,
there's a bit in the middle which we need to get over - the bit which
takes you from deciding to become a Non-Smoker to actually becoming
one. And this is where our system works supremely well - because we
cover every aspect and leave nothing to chance - we want 100% success
here so that we'll never have to blame you for not being committed or
not doing it right. We get it right between us.
Secondly, and you must know this - once you know it, we can deal with it quite simply: You will have withdrawal symptoms
- it's the nature of addiction. The drug (Nicotine) will keep trying to
drag you back by giving you all sorts of unpleasant signals. These will
last a maximum of four days when the Nicotine is completely out of your system and the addiction is over. (Your body cannot be addicted to something which isn't present). Don't worry, we'll deal with all of this.
The treatment.
We use our unique system to get you stopped permanently:
1. We break the addiction and deal with the withdrawal so that the sypmtoms don't bother you at all -
these are symptoms which you must have [if you didn't, then you
wouldn't be addicted and thereby fooled into thinking it was ok to pay
for a product which kills someone in the UK every 6 minutes and all the
time knowing that you are in the queue]. We can get you through this
really quite comfortably.
2. Eliminate psychological dependencies - this is a major part of the Stop Smoking program and is there to help you stop and stay stopped. We also deal with any associations
(lighting a cigarette when starting a phone call, having a drink,
etc.). This flushes out any 'automatic' associations. See also
**Detoxing at the bottom.
That's it - all in one session.
However, we're here to support you and can reinforce what we've done over the phone if necessary.
Special Note: We
do ask you to avoid smoky environments for 4 days post-hypnotherapy.
This is because passive smoking can be just enough to keep the
addiction in place and we need to flush the Nicotine from your body. We
only need to do this once. We schedule 2 hours to complete the process in a single
session although it may be complete in 90 minutes.
Price: Stop Smoking - the cost to permanently stop is £125.
Please also note that there can never be guarantees in any therapeutic intervention. It is important that you want to stop smoking. However, this method is your best chance at stopping... An independent survery by New Scientist, which looked at lots of therapies for stopping smoking concluded that hypnotherapy was the most effective.
The Hypnosis Centre System is unlike any other:
Many
Hypnotherapy Practices make some very easy to understand and attractive
claims - in fact, we used to do that too - its much easier to present a
simple 'cure' and that's what a lot of patients want anyway. But we
knew that a lot of these 'cures' just weren't working so we decided to
do some research - a lot of research. After much work, we now know as
much as anyone about the mechanisms of Addiction, Psychological
Dependence and the reasons why it can be so difficult to stop.
We also
know how, in our society, smoking is treated differently to anything
remotely similar.
For
example: if you visit your GP because you have a problem with alcohol
or heroin then you'll be treated like someone who has fallen victim to
a disease and you'll get all sorts of support. As a smoker, however,
you'll often be treated as someone who is doing something stupid, by
choice and its all your fault. You may even be denied healthcare !
GPs
do a fantastic job but how can they deal with this - a legal, lethal,
highly addictive drug which is widely used and on general sale? [I
don't know the answer to this either]. Millions of pounds of public
money has been spent over the last 30 years trying to persuade people
not to smoke - some people have stopped, some have died, some have
started. and the overall result has been - no change in the numbers of smokers (population percentage) - there are as many smokers now as ever.
Clearly, we need a different approach - and this is what we at The Hypnosis Centre have
- a unique method, which works.
We don't simplify this complex problem
- we know what we are dealing with and we deal with all aspects to
reach our mutual goal:- you becoming an non-smoker, permanently.
Smoking - how serious ? Hypnotherapy - how so ?
In
the UK alone, smoking kills over 330 people every day - around 130,000
per year [about 35 times the number of people killed on our roads every
year]. Tobacco contains killer drugs and its on sale in sweetshops !
This is the biggest threat to our Nation's Health and the Government
has no research budget for smoking cessation.
We
also know that the tobacco companies need to recruit 330 new smokers
every day - to replace the ones who are dying - and they are achieving
it without any problem whatsoever - these new recruits are our
children.
This is serious.
Most
Hypnotherapy consultations, worldwide, are to Stop Smoking. The reason
for this, quite simply, is that Hypnotherapy works better than any of
the other method available.
The treatment isn't normally a long
therapy course designed to deal with all of life's issues. The
treatments are simply to help you become a non-smoker and no more. Our
System has built on all that has gone before - including our own
hypnotherapeutic work - we are grateful to our past and present
patients and the pioneers who went before us.
Mythbusting*:
Myth: Smoking is purely psychological.
Truth:
No its not, Nicotine is highly addictive. Psychological dependency
follows from this. (It can last long after the addiction is over and
lead to restarting if we don't deal with it early on, although it does
fade with time).
Myth: I can wean myself off tobacco.
Truth: No you can't - you are addicted or not addicted - nothing in-between. Although cutting down is a good thing.
Myth: It's just a habit.
Truth:
Not its not - going to fetch cigarettes from the all-night garage at
midnight isn't a habit. Its not 'just' anything - this is a complex
problem which leads people to believe that inhaling burning, toxic
gases is perfectly normal.
Myth: Smoking relieves Stress.
Truth:
No it doesn't. Non-smokers don't smoke to relieve stress and they cope.
Nicotine stimulates the production of adrenalin which causes stress !
Smoking causes much more stress than it could ever relieve. If you
suffer from stress, you could go to your GP for other medication. What
would you think if your doctor offered you a choice of two
stress-relieving drugs and then explained that one of them had certain
side-effects and it killed 330 people a day in the UK ? Would you
choose that one ?
Myth: I enjoy smoking - life wouldn't be as enjoyable without it.
Truth:
Can you remember your first cigarette ? The coughing and the distaste ?
No-one enjoys the first one because its poisonous and your body trys to
reject it. Your body adapted to the poison - its the only mechanism for
coping with the repeated onslaught as you practised - and it resulted
in addiction. As an addict, when you don't smoke for an hour or two
(depending on your smoking pattern) you get very unpleasant signals
(early withdrawal). Smoking doesn't really give you pleasure - it puts off the displeasure of not smoking -
which is different - and it conveniently keeps the addiction going. The
next time you are in a social setting where people are smoking, take a look
around at the smokers and non-smokers - which ones are enjoying
themselves most ? Which ones are experiencing the most pleasure ? At
best - you can't tell the difference. Do the non-smokers seem somehow
envious of the pleasure and enjoyment that they are missing out on ?
This isn't a trick - its the nature of addiction - it affects your
beliefs.
The truth is this - Non-smokers can smoke if they wish- but they choose not to. Until smokers truly believe that they have a choice, then they are not in control of their own lives - the addiction is.
*If
you are a Hypnotherapist, Acupuncturist, Medical Doctor, have some
other interest in Smoking Cessation or perhaps you are someone
struggling with these explanations, do call me and I'll be delighted to
explain.
A great deal of Medical Research
forms the basis of what is presented here which I am happy to share and
I'm always very willing to hear other points of view.
Stop Smoking and Stay Stopped
We've
developed the Stop Smoking Program and we are delighted with it. It is
not like any other Stop Smoking method there is - we studied the
science and threw out a lot of the old ideas. We know that anyone can
become a non-smoker with this system and we've put our money where our
mouth is - the cost to permanently stop is equivalent to about 4 weeks
smoking costs for an average smoker.
If
you stop for a day, you have successfully stopped smoking, for a day -
just keep doing that. If you have another cigarette in 6 months time,
you haven't failed - you've just smoked a cigarette - continue with
your success (call us if you wish).
There is a lot of Fear amongst
would-be non-smokers that they can never smoke - this is very real (as
fear is). Of course you can smoke - any of us can - some of us choose not to.
**Detoxing:
To a greater or lesser extent, your body will quickly purge itself of
the toxins which you've been building up over the last 10, 20, 30 years
- however long in your case. This can be rather unpleasant as the
primary release area will be your mouth. These sypmtoms are often
interpreted as withdrawal but they are not - the withdrawal ended when
the Nicotine was flushed after 4 days. We use hypnotherapy to deal with
this also.
This Stop Smoking hypnotherapy is available in Scotland - Glasgow and Edinburgh.
